Vinci, as you may have already guessed from the name, is the birthplace of one of the greatest geniuses of all time, Leonardo Da Vinci!
We already know a lot about Leonardo, an Italian polymath of the Renaissance whose areas of interest included invention, drawing, painting, sculpting, architecture, science, music, mathematics, engineering, literature, anatomy, geology, astronomy, botany, writing, history, and cartography. He was the father of palaeontology, ichnology, and architecture, and he is widely considered one of the greatest painters of all time. TheMona Lisais the most famous of his works and the most popular portrait ever made. The Last Supper The most popular religious painting of all time. Perhaps 15 of his paintings have survived.
Nevertheless, he compiled a contribution to later generations of artists by Leonardo’s contemporary Michelangelo.
Vinci will introduce you to Leonardo’s world, with its birthplace but also and above all with the Leonardian Museum and the Leonardo Library, which, if you will, will immerse you in the world of genius, with its paintings, the reproduction of its machines, its writings. Exciting.
The city is dotted with small characteristic corners that will project you into the world of Leonardo as if you were traveling in a time machine, but also in modernity, walking among its wonderful little streets you will find numerous contemporary works of art that shape the city with new suggestions .
July is also the month of another curious event concerning Vinci: “Il Volo by Cecco Santi”.
A re-enactment is organized based on the Cecco di Santi story, a soldier from the Vinci army who, for the sake of a noblewoman of an enemy country, betrayed his city deserving a horrible death sentence: being thrown from the tower of the Castello dei Conti Guidi .If the captain had managed to survive the “flight” he would have saved his life and, perhaps thanks to a last miraculous glass of wine, Cecco was able to fly to the opposite hill, miraculously saving himself. That year the peasants had abundant harvests of grapes, olives and wheat.
The last Wednesday of July, a historical procession of figures recalls the most important moments in the history of Cecco up to the exciting flight from the tower, greeted by the fireworks.
Once again, the Chianti and its surroundings surprise us with incredible stories and places. Come and experience them with us, we are waiting for you !!
