If you want to visit the Chianti area, it’s definitely for the beautiful landscape, the rolling hills, its perfumes, its flavors, its hospitality as well as for its fantastic food and very famous wine but you will surely also appreciate its history, its traditions, its art and its spirituality. The Chianti area is dotted with countless testimonies and suggestions that will enrich your culture, your artistic curiosity and why not, your holiday! The history of these areas, like much of that of the Tuscan and Italian territory, is impregnated with peasant culture, simple lives, hard work, love for simple life and spirituality.
Beautiful churches at every corner
The Christian tradition is obviously predominant and therefore, through the centuries, the testimonies of this faith and of this devotion are the innumerable churches, small and large, largely Romanesque and Renaissance that are located inside and outside every small town of our beloved land .
For example the church of San Cresci in Montefioralle (Greve) is not to be missed, with its particular architectural structure and its nartace, a small marvelous atrium very rare in buildings of this period.
Or the beautiful parish church of Santa Maria in Spaltenna near Gaiole in Chianti, a rare example of “pieve armata”, of spontaneous medieval architecture, where residences arose around the parish church and the monastery. Impossible to miss the parish church of Sant’Appiano (Barberino Val d’Elsa) which probably offers the remains of the only external baptismal font in all of Tuscany.
Countless churches means that over the centuries many masterpieces of sacred art have been produced that you can admire in the museums of sacred art of Chianti, especially that of San Casciano with the panels of the fourteenth century, that of Greve In Chianti with works ranging from fourteenth to nineteenth century, but also the museum of Tavarnelle Val di Pesa with the works of Lorenzo di Bicci.
As we said before, the peasant culture is an integral part of our traditions and therefore, if we want to fully understand the roots and traditions of Chianti, it will certainly be a pleasant and interesting visit the one that you may do at the Ferrari museum of rural history and culture of San Donato in Poggio.
Finally, last but not least, the archaeological museum of Castellina in Chianti, where the Etruscan remains will help to understand the inseparable relationship between man and this amazing area.
Chianti is a world, come to Corte di Valle and we will hasten to visit it, understand it, enjoy it.
We are waiting for you!
