This beautil small city is in the southern part of Chianti, we are now in the municipality of Siena that is just 20 km away from Castelnuovo Berardenga.
A little history
the city is named after Count Berardo of the Franks population and was founded in 1366. Its strategic position gave it the name “castelnuovo” (new castle). It grew and prospered under the rule of the republic of Siena until the defeat of 1555 by the Grand Duke of the Medici. The Tower in Petrilli Square, now clock tower was originally a defense tower. Among the things you can admire during your visit to Castelnuovo Berardenga are of course the wonderful Alley of the Arch, with its high stairs and its bas-reliefs, the Church of San Giusto and Clemente, built in the nineteenth century, the Church of the ” Madonna del Patrocinio “but also, not far from the center of the village, Pieve a Pacina, with its ancient origins, probably dating to 714 a.C.
A stunning landscape
Obviously the city is surrounded by the wonderful nature of Tuscany, its landscape makes it very characteristic because, although it is the southernmost city of the Chianti area, you can already admire the change of landscape that will then become what is still amazing and wonderful of “Creste Senesi”, another unique landscape famous throughout the world.
