Vinci, as you may have already guessed from the name, is the birthplace of one of the greatest geniuses of all time, Leonardo Da Vinci!
We already know a lot about Leonardo, an Italian polymath of the Renaissance whose areas of interest included invention, drawing, painting, sculpting, architecture, science, music, mathematics, engineering, literature, anatomy, geology, astronomy, botany, writing, history, and cartography. He was the father of palaeontology, ichnology, and architecture, and he is widely considered one of the greatest painters of all time. A re-enactment is organized based on the Cecco di Santi story, a soldier from the Vinci army who, for the sake of a noblewoman of an enemy country, betrayed his city deserving a horrible death sentence: being thrown from the tower of the Castello dei Conti Guidi .If the captain had managed to survive the “flight” he would have saved his life and, perhaps thanks to a last miraculous glass of wine, Cecco was able to fly to the opposite hill, miraculously saving himself. That year the peasants had abundant harvests of grapes, olives and wheat.
The last Wednesday of July, a historical procession of figures recalls the most important moments in the history of Cecco up to the exciting flight from the tower, greeted by the fireworks.
